A grand Italianate basilica of 1894 enriched with marble, granite and carved stone. The apse contains Britain’s largest sgraffito mural, by Heywood Sumner c1901. Fine furnishings, untouched by Vatican II, by Randoll Blacking, Sir Ninian Comper, Sir Walter Tapper, Martin Travers, Norman Shaw and others. Described by Pevsner as containing "one of Portsmouth’s few major works of art".
