Spains Hall Estate has been in the Ruggles-Brise family for over 250 years. Successive generations have sought to diversify the interests of the Estate in response to the changing needs of the times.
It is very much a working estate, in the traditional and modern sense. Historic Spains Hall is at its heart, still a family home but also put to good use as a wedding and meeting venue. The Coach House, Dovecote and Stables block were reincarnated as The Stables complex in 2005. There are 8 more estate properties, a fishery, a game shoot, over 1800 acres of working farmland and 150 acres of woodland with 11 miles of public footpaths and 9 miles of Farm Ride bridle paths. All of the different aspects contribute to the maintenance of the Estate and ensure its continued survival for future generations.
The Estate is located just outside Finchingfield – widely regarded as the most beautiful village in Essex. The Estate is a prominent feature of the local environment and community. It plays an important role both as an employer and as a focus of local history.
