Chain Bridge Forge

Chain Bridge ForgeMuseum - A Living Museum from the19th Century

Origins of the Forge are thought to date from around the mid 1700’s however the building as seen today are from around 1800. The Forge is situated on the east bank of the River Welland it’s about a mile from the town centre of Spalding, and backs directly onto the river. It is a purpose built blacksmith’s workshop and still has all its original features, tools and documents.

In an age where crafts such as blacksmithing are no longer at the heart of the community, it is easy to forget what a crucial role this building once played in the town, and its port. The project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and other generous contributors and this has preserved this wonderful building and its contents.
